Overview

Pingnan County is located in the northeast of Fujian Province and is under the jurisdiction of Ningde City. Established in 1734 (the 12th year of 

Yongzheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty), the county covers an area of 1487 square kilometers, has jurisdiction over 152 administrative villages 

and 8 communities in 5 towns, 6 townships, and a total population of 205300. It is a national rural reform pilot area, a national demonstration

 county for the centralized protection and utilization of traditional villages, a demonstration county for the development of cultural and creative

 industries in traditional Chinese villages, a hometown of Chinese folk culture and art, a demonstration county for Chinese folk Tonic Diet, a 

national eastern ecological civilization tourist area, and a provincial key hometown of overseas Chinese. 


In recent years, Pingnan County has made every effort to promote the development of the "three first-class" industries of high-altitude agriculture,

 green industry, and cultural tourism and health care, and the economic and social development has shown a stable and positive trend. In 2022, 

the county achieved a regional gross domestic product of 12.589 billion yuan, an increase of 17.3%, ranking first in the province in terms of growth 

rate. Within two years, the total economic output surpassed four sister counties and cities in the province; Among them, the added value of

 industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 159.7%, the total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery

 increased by 8.6%, and the total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 9.3%. The growth rates of all three indicators ranked first in Ningde

 City; The retail sales of e-commerce in the whole county reached 869 million yuan, an increase of 33.1%. In particular, the mushroom production

 in our county only accounted for 0.5% of the national total, but the sales accounted for 1/3 of the mushroom sales in Tiktok; In 2022, the city's 

performance evaluation of counties ranked first among mountainous counties in the city, and the performance evaluation of rural revitalization 

strategy ranked first in the city. In the first three quarters of 2023, the county achieved a regional GDP of 9.636 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8%, 

and a total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery increased by 7.3%, ranking first in Ningde City; The total revenue 

of the general public budget increased by 49.5%, ranking second in Ningde City; The comprehensive ranking of the 2023 Provincial Rural 

Revitalization Heat Index ranks among the top ten.

Historical information 

Pingnan has a long history, with ancient Yue ancestors living and multiplying in the area as early as 3000 years ago.

Pingnan originally belonged to Gutian County. In the 13th year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1735), 13 cities in the northeast of 

Gutian County, including Yifeng Li, Xinsu Li, and Hengxi Li, were separated to establish the county. The county seat of Shuangxi is located south

 of Cuiping Mountain, so Emperor Yongzheng named it "Pingnan". After Pingnan was established as a county, it belonged to Fuzhou Prefecture.

In the first year of the Guoyuan era (1912), the system of prefectures and states was abolished, and a three-level system of provinces, provinces,

 and counties was implemented. Pingnan was directly under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province. In the 22nd year of the Republic of China, the 

People's Revolutionary Government of the Republic of China divided Fujian into four provinces, and Pingnan belonged to Minhai Province. From 

the 23rd to the 38th year of the Republic of China, Pingnan was under the jurisdiction of the second, third, and eighth administrative inspection 

areas.

After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, Pingnan belonged to the Nanping Special Zone.

In August 1963, it was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Minhou Special Zone.

In July 1970, it was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Fu'an Special Zone.

In 1971, the former Fu'an Special Administrative Office relocated to Ningde and renamed Ningde area. In 2000, Ningde area was renamed 

Ningde City, and Pingnan County was under its jurisdiction.

Pingnan County is located in the northeast of Fujian Province, covering an area of 1471 square kilometers. The county has 11 townships and

 153 administrative villages. Pingnanqian was under the jurisdiction of Gutian until the 13th year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty 

(1735 AD).

Historical evolution: According to the Pingnan County Annals, Pingnan County was established during the Qing Dynasty and named after its

 location south of Guping Mountain.

In the twelfth year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1734), Beixiang of Gutian County was separated to establish Pingnan County, 

which was under the jurisdiction of Fuzhou Prefecture and Minhai Road. Liberated on November 28, 1949, it has been under the jurisdiction of 

Nanping Special Zone, Minhou Special Zone, Fu'an District, Ningde District, and Ningde City.

In 2000, Pingnan County governed 5 towns and 6 townships: Gufeng Town, Shuangxi Town, Daixi Town, Changqiao Town, Pingcheng Township,

 Tangkou Town, Gantang Township, Xiling Township, Luxia Township, Shoushan Township, and Lingxia Township. According to the fifth national 

census data, the total population of the county is 168482, including the population of each township (person): Gufeng Town 33082 Shuangxi 

Town 14132 Daixi Town 22349 Changqiao Town 16027 Pingcheng Township 10122 Tangkou Township 18959 Gantang Township 12676 Xiling 

Township 13034 Road Xiaxia 9067 Shoushan Township 7562 Lingxia Township 11472

In 2003, Pingnan County governed 5 towns and 6 townships: Gufeng Town, Shuangxi Town, Daixi Town, Changqiao Town, Pingcheng Township,

 Tangkou Town, Gantang Township, Xiling Township, Luxia Township, Shoushan Township, and Lingxia Township. At the end of 2003, the 

registered residence population was 181300, including 35700 non-agricultural population.

At the end of 2022, the permanent population was 137000, with an urbanization level of 51.55%; The annual birth rate is 8.31 ‰, the mortality

 rate is 9.74 ‰, and the natural growth rate is -1.43 ‰. By the end of 2022, the registered residence population will be 188500, 6.09 ‰ lower

 than that at the end of the previous year, of which the urban registered residence population will be 68600, accounting for 36.6% of the total

 registered residence population (urbanization level). The total number of births throughout the year was 1300, with a birth rate of 7.02 ‰;

Geographical position

Pingnan County is located in the northeast of Fujian Province, upstream of Huotong Creek and Gutian Creek, between 26 ° 44 ′ -27 ° 10 ′ N 

latitude and 118 ° 41 ′ -119 ° 13 ′ E longitude. It is connected to Jiaocheng District to the southeast, Gutian County to the southwest, Jianou 

City to the northwest, Zhenghe County to the north, and Zhouning County to the northeast.

The total land area of the county is 1487.3 square kilometers. Located in the middle of the Jiufeng Mountain Range, the county's terrain slopes

 from northwest to southeast. The landform belongs to four types: Zhongshan, low mountains, hills, and intermountain basins. The peaks and 

valleys within the territory are undulating, with crisscrossing valleys and basins, and significant differences in altitude. The highest peak, the 

eastern peak tip, has an elevation of 1627 meters, while the lowest point, Shoushan Yuanping Village, has an elevation of 250 meters. The

 average elevation of the entire county is 838.5 meters
